My Favorite Places to "Shop Small": 2018 Edition

The Saturday after Thanksgiving is recognized as a day to support small businesses and all they do for the local community.  Small businesses utilize resources in our local communities and invest back into our neighborhood economy.  There is no better feeling than the warm fuzzies you get from the personalized attention small business owners give - this is how many of them become our friends.

Below are some of my favorite small business for 2018. Some you can walk into, some you have to visit online or at a pop-up shop. Please read on and if you are interested in more amazing small businesses, check out my small business blogpost from November 2017

I always get compliments when I wear my handmade earrings from hyde your jewelry.
Owner and designer Cody gets really crafty when it comes to creating custom leather jewelry.
Follow her on IG @hydeyourjewelry

Mbali Arts is a company near and dear to my heart because it is owned and operated by my Aunt Adora Lee! Sales from these handcrafted, one of a kind journals, notecards and other keepsakes support girls' empowerment projects in South Africa. Follow on IG @mbali_arts

If you see me wearing a fly piece that you haven't seen anywhere else, it's pretty likely
that I purchased it at one of two places - the vault by Sacha (top 2 pics) or eshe boutique (bottom 2 pics).
Both of these boutiques are run by beautiful black women whom I truly admire personally and professionally.
Follow them on IG @thevaultbysacha and @shop_eshe and be prepared to part with your money for a fashionable cause!

Sometimes a girl just feels like wearing a hat. For me, hats aren't always easy to find due to the size of my head.
I love this line of snapbacks from that let you show off your weight class
 - or the one you want to be!

Okay, so the truth is this business is a repeat offender on my faves list. I can't get enough of shouting out Lee's flowershop and the wonderful sisters who own it. Stacie and Kristie, their daughters and their staff are experts at what they do and you will feel the love in your floral arrangements. Follow them on IG @leesflowersdc

*photo credit to Yvette Crocker. My son and I have all kinds of dry skin issues, and during the winter, no amount of shea butter, cocoa butter, or coconut oil seems to help. Luckily I met Lisa through another fave business. One smell of her body butter and I was in heaven. Then I actually rubbed it on my skin and...well... I can't wait to re-up. Follow Lisa on IG @exhalebylisarenee and try her products - you are in for a treat!

I hope you will join me in celebrating these business, many of them woman and minority owned, not just on small business Saturday but all the time! happy shopping!!!

-love, Michele
